The Indian community plans to raise $20 million to build a replica of the Taj Mahal in Auckland. The group wants a miniature version of the world-famous mausoleum to become the hub of cultural activities at the community's Mahatma Gandhi Centre in New North Rd, Eden Terrace. The replica could include a marble mausoleum, reflection pool and gold-plated ornaments.
Indian community group chairman Kanu Patel says fundraising efforts are already underway and they will also be applying to the ASB Charitable Trust, Auckland City Council and Lottery Grants Board for help with the project.

| | Music is in my blood. Ever since I was a little kid I grew up around music, and I come from a musically talented family. My grandfather was a famous music director in the Indian film industry, my father was a musician/singer, and almost all of my family has some sort of musical talent. Therefore, growing up around famous artists and people in my family with a strong passion for music inspired me to sing and explore my own vocal talents. From performing for school events as a young kid, to then making my mark on various university events/parties in Sydney as a singer & MC, I have taken every opportunity to showcase my talent both locally and overseas, and continue to do so. I enjoy a variety of music and can adapt to various styles/genres. My singing styles include: R&B/Soul, Rap/Hip-hop, and also Hindi / Bollywood / Bhangra. Depending on the occasion, I can perform both as a Singer or MC for various events/parties/nightclubs. |
