'Gandhi: The Power of One', is a full scale stage performance on the life of the great Mahatma (Great Soul) Gandhi. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, commonly referred to as Gandhiji, adopted the approach of non-violence, Satyagraha which finally led to India’s Independence from the British Government. Gandhi’s philosophy has a universal aspect and is still highly appreciated in today’s society.

Through dance, drama and music, Vishwaas productions conveys Gandhi’s eternal philosophies in an aim to inspire and empower today’s society into making a difference.

The production is just as much a celebration of Indian culture as it is of Gandhiji’s role in the Indian Independence movement. A showcase of the various cultures of India, including the divine vibes of carnatic music, soothing melodies of Rabindra Sangeet and the folk dances of the north will be on display.

The plot underlying 'Gandhi: The Power of One' is centered around Gandhiji’s role in Indian Independence struggle. Beginning with his travels in South Africa where Gandhiji first conceived the concept of satyagrahah (practice of non-violent resistance), the production will explore how Gandhi taught a nation to stand up as one and reclaim its freedom. Pivotal moments in the Independence movement including the salt march, quit india campaign and jallianwalah massacre will be depicted on stage.

The Music

Sydney based University student, Gana Aruneswaran is the musical genius behind the original score for The Gandhi Project. Whilst composing the musical score, focus has been kept on the specific music from the Gandhi era. Combining musical influence from east and west, Gana has composed a score that incorporates a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, eastern mandolin, tabla and veena. Listen here to a few pieces from the production. The complete musical score will be available for purchase by late July.
